Frederica, Wahoo, and Herb Rivers

House on Cumberland Island
We want to stay far away from this marker, its always on dry land!
Waterslide on Jekyll Island

We're not in the land of palm trees anymore

 Beautiful bridge near Brunswick GA.
Our anchorage in Frederica River

We had a good day on the water heading to Frederica River. We left Cumberland Island about 6:40 and got to Frederica River at 12:30. We traveled almost 6 hours at 5.9kts and went about 35 nm.

We had heard about a great restaurant near the anchorage and decided to go there for lunch. It's called Coastal Kitchen and we liked it. They had really good sounding brunch items and the ones we tried were good. Back to the boat to spend a quite evening on the water.

This is how the water looks now!
Today we have some skinny water to travel thru. Being on the water is nothing like being on a highway. When you are on a highway, you don't usually have to worry about whether your car will drag. But in a boat, just because there's water in front of you doesn't mean you can go thru. We know we can have problems at Little Mud River. We need to make sure that we are not going thru at low or falling tide. Not enough water for us. So the night before, we made lots of notes about times, and tide and ETA's. And it worked out great. Lots of water, yeah! Our worst problem today was the big biting flies! Ouch!

These cows were grazing along the river. Some of them look like they have sunk down into the muck!
Crabber doing his thing.
This house looked like it was hiding. The only trees in this area were right around the houses.

See?

Very pretty place along the ICW
This is an unusual arrangement for the markers, they are usually back to back.

We've talked about this before, the ladder is usually on the outside of the channel. This one is on the inside. Means very shallow water on the other side. Or somebody messed up!
ICW cruise boat.

Pretty and clean shrimp boat.

This was an R/V, a research vessel.

Beautiful cloud formations today!

Yuck, this was a dead pig floating by!

This shows the shoreline when the tide is down.

As you can see we are very near the inlet. That's ok if the wind is calm like tonight.

We left the anchorage at 6:45 and got to Wahoo at 12:40. We traveled about 39nm at 6.4kts for 6 hours. We have fond memories of this place on our first trip to take Escape home. We stopped here for several days for some bad weather. We had no problems here.
Beautiful sunset at Wahoo

Several shrimp boats came in to anchor just inside Wahoo. They were gone the next morning when we got up.

Sunrise

We left here at 6:40 heading to the Herb River. We did more calculations last night for times, depth and ETA. We are passing thru Hells Gate today and it can be tricky. Yeah! No problem in Hells Gate. So far our calculating has worked. We had a good trip to Herb. Saw lots of pretty houses and boats.
Was this an old boat that had been worked on, or a new boat made to look old?

We saw so many beautiful houses on the way to the Herb River. It's near Savannah, so that's why there are so many pretty houses.

Earlier, Ken had mentioned that we didn't have many clouds. Look behind you, Ken!

This is another research vessel. I don't remember seeing any in the past, but we have seen several this trip.

See the steep angle on the ramps? That shows how much the tides go up and down here. They are about 8 feet. That's a lot of water going in and out.

We got here about 1:40. We traveled 43 nm in 7 hours at 5.9kts. Another good day.

B anchored in the Herb River.

These are of our anchorage in Herb River.

We are very close to Savannah. We'll go to the docks there in the morning. Our first time.
