Beaufort Spring 2016

We  left Herb River at 9:10. We had a good trip with no problems. Other than being disappointed about Savannah.
Water is lower this morning.
Thunderbolt Marine is always very busy.

Cute boat.

They look different from the back
Savannah off in the distance. Next time.

Freighter coming up the Savannah River from the ocean

You can see that he is loaded down. We have now crossed the SC state line. GA is no longer on our minds.

Beautiful park on the waterfront

Shay wants to buy a condo in this building. Its very near the waterfront, downtown and you can see the water. What more could you want?

Sea Salt and us took a walk around town and made a discovery. We were walking and Shay kept telling me I needed to look on the other side of this tall brick fence. We were on the other side of the road and I couldn't see over it. He said it a couple of times and so when we had a clear path across the highway, I crossed over. Oh my goodness. It was amazing. It was the Beaufort National Cemetery. I have tried to find out how many are buried there and didn't see a number but it must be thousands. There are row after row of markers. All laid out in perfect symmetry.

We walked thru here for about an hour and could have spent more time. Don't miss it. It just keeps going on and on.There are veterans from as far back as The Spanish American War. We would like to take a guided tour thru here. It would be amazing! I told Shay the next time I needed to see something to be more forceful! Don't suggest, pull me across the road!

The oak tree with Spanish moss are beautiful.

We went on a grocery run, looking for our favorite pimento cheese, Mrs. Kinzer with
jalapeno. The Food Lion here is our first place to find it when we are heading north.  Boy, were we disappointed when we got to the store. They didn't have any in the store and no one knew why. Hope the next stop is better.
Cute couple, cute boat

Oh My, is here and we spent some time with them. It was good to catch up with them again. We all went out to lunch one day and talked about doing an outside run from St Helena Sound to Charleston Harbor. We'll check the weather and make our decision.

Back to the boat, weather checked and Oh My and Escape are leaving Beaufort, SC and going to St. Helena Sound to anchor for the night. Sea Salt has decided to stay here a few days and spend more time with Pearl. Yes, we caught up with them again.

We left at about 3:00 and got to the Sound at about 6:00. We traveled about 3 hours, at 4.9kts and went about 16nm. We had a calm trip all the way.

Tomorrow we head outside to Charleston and then farther north on the ICW. Oh My will spend a day or two in Charleston visiting family.
