Georgia on Our Mind 2016 Part 2

Up and heading to a new, for us, anchorage. We are going to North Newport River.

We left Frederica at 8:20. If we left any earlier we would have had more skinny water, so we waited.

This house is playing hide n seek. It is hiding pretty good..
Beautiful sky

Sea Salt's looking good.

Sea Salt and Pearl.

Our anchorage
We got to the anchorage at about 4:00. We had traveled almost 8 hours, at 5.9kts and went about 46nm. We had timed things right and had no problems at the Little Mud River. We passed by one of our usual anchorages, Wahoo. We went farther so we could stage for Hell Gate the next day. That  name even sounds bad.

We went to Sea Salt along with Pearl for drinks and appetizers. We all had a good time telling boating stories. It's fun to travel with other boats and spend time with old and new friends.

Up and heading to Herb River at 8:10. We slept a little later so the tides would be up when we got to Hell Gate. We had no problems and that was good.
Along the waterway

Low water

Hell Gate, doesn't look so bad now, but it can be when the wind, waves, current, and tide are not lined up just so.
Shrimper. They look like big bugs on the water..

Sleek looking boat along the ICW

We met this barge in a curvy place in the ICW.

You've got to make room for them.
Savannah Sheraton. We can see if from our anchorage.

Pearl is saying good bye. Bye Bruce and Gaylean. They are in more of a hurry than we are. Have a safe trip! See you next time.
Pretty house on the Herb River, near our anchorage

Here we are
Our anchorage

We got to our anchorage at 2:15. We had traveled about 6 hours at 5.9kts and traveled about 37nm. We saw dolphins, turtles, and rays along the way. We are going here so we will be in a better position to go to Savannah the next day. We know the current is strong at the ICW/Savannah River intersection. We want to plan our trip so we get there on an incoming tide to get a push.

The only problem with going to Savannah's City Dock, is there are no reservations. It's first come, first served. We have called the dock master  several times and she says she has a 113' Coast Guard boat coming in Friday morning right before we should get there. We won't go there unless she thinks she has room. It will take us an hour to get to Savannah from the ICW and the other marinas are too expensive for us.

Richard called the dock master at 8 am and she said the Coast Guard boat a another boat are at the dock and she doesn't think there is room for us. Poo! I was looking forward to getting more pralines. They were so good last time. Margaret from Rocking B and I bought enough to get some free and divided the goodies. Yum! Well maybe next time?

We do have a back up plan. We will go to Beaufort, SC another favorite place our ours. Remember, our plans are written in sand and are always changing.
